Relief. Tears of joy. Unbridled excitement. Knowing that a new phase of life is beginning. Anticipation of the opportunities and work that lies ahead. Acknowledging the end of an era. Gratitude.

My clients feel many emotions along the way as they work through buying or selling their homes, but those are the ones I most often witness at the closing table, at the culmination of the process. There is something really special about joining the people I work with through what is often a very important and touching experience. All of my closings are meaningful in their own way.

This year, I’ve helped a number of first-time home buyers. This is always fun for me. Of course, they tend to be my younger clients looking at a lifetime ahead of them, now with the opportunity for that life to play out in a new venue. It’s the largest purchase of their lives so far, and it’s steeped in hope and promise. I also recently helped a client sell the seventh house they had owned. At the other end of the spectrum, they viewed this move as hopefully their last. They found a comfortable condo to move into, and the ease of living there meant it was time to move on. Their recollections of other homes and their life experiences were wonderful to be able to hear from them.

You might think that, after over twenty years in the industry and hundreds of closings, I would be growing tired of my work. That it would become monotonous, boring, tiresome, and old. You couldn’t be more wrong. Frankly, I love what I do!

The best part of my profession is the people I work with. It is such a joy to meet new clients, to work with old friends, and to help everyone reach their goals in real estate. Recently, when the Powerball was at a billion dollars, like most people, I fantasized a bit about what I would do if I won. And I realized that helping people buy and sell their homes is so meaningful to me that I would probably continue working even if I were the big winner. It’s that important to me.

This year, I’ve taken the opportunity to continue to grow. I’ve been learning many new things, from coaching to AI to marketing. I’ve been working on new projects and making improvements to how I do things. There is something deeply satisfying about setting a goal, making a plan, and then executing the steps required to bring everything to fruition. I can now look back and see how far I’ve come. I genuinely feel like I’m better than ever at what I do.

That said, I would love to do more of what I do. If you are planning on buying or selling any real estate in the future, we should talk. And if anyone you know is moving soon, please let me know. It’s an especially great time of year for referrals, as the second half of the year is a bit slower, and I have plenty of time to connect with people. It would make my day to hear from you!
